The families of two men shot and killed by Denver police in the past year have filed separate claims of $5 million each against the city.
Twenty-six-year-old Nathan Aguillard was shot in the head and chest in April during a no-knock raid at his apartment. His family described the Hurricane Katrina evacuee as mentally impaired. Police said he had a gun.
Police shot and killed 33-year-old Jason Gomez in December when he pulled out a silver cigarette lighter that police said looked like a gun.
Mayor John Hickenlooper’s spokeswoman, Sue Cobb, on Friday said the city will review the claims and decide how to proceed.
