Two experienced hunters have disappeared while on an elk-hunting trip near Meeker, Michigan authorities reported today.

Lt. Jim VanDyken of the Kalamazoo County (Michigan) Sheriff’s Office said that the missing men are brothers Charles Boso of Kalamazoo and William Boso of Ashland, Ky.

VanDyken said the brothers annually take elk-hunting trips to the Meeker area and were experienced outdoorsmen.

He said the two met in Kalamazoo on Oct. 30 and phoned relatives at about 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 to let them know they had arrived in Meeker.

The brothers said they would return to Kalamazoo on Friday. When they failed to arrive as planned, Charles Boso’s wife called authorities.

The Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Office then contacted both the Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Department and the Meeker Police Department, said VanDyken.

The men were in a maroon 2000 F-350 Ford pickup with Michigan plates 7JFL43. The truck is registered to Charles Boso, said VanDyken.

VanDyken said that Colorado authorities have launched a ground and air search for the men. But he said it is being hampered because no one knows where the men planned to hunt.

He said Colorado searchers have told him they will have to search a 3,000-mile area.

VanDyken said anyone who has seen the men or knows where they might be hunting should call the Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Department at 970-878-9620 or the Meeker Police Department at 970-875-5555.
