PUEBLO, Colo.—A Pueblo man whose son is on trial for murder says he wants to testify when the case resumes Wednesday.

Forty-five-year-old Joe Manuel Sierra told a district judge Monday he wants to take the stand in the trial of his son, 17-year-old Rico Sierra. He faces first-degree murder charges in the Aug. 2007 death of Mark Lucero.

Joe Manuel Sierra is also charged with murder in the case.

Prosecutors allege Rico Sierra gunned down Lucero in the driveway of Lucero’s home, but defense attorney Michael Emmons told jurors Monday that the teen was justified in the shooting because he was trying to save his father’s life.

Lucero and Joe Manuel Sierra had a long-standing feud, and Lucero allegedly charged at the elder Sierra with a knife on the night of the shooting.
