A 56-year-old Lafayette man accused of saying he had explosives in his bag while on a Northwest Airlines flight made his first appearance in U.S. District Court in Denver on Wednesday.

Mark Randall Rayborn is charged with making false threats aboard an aircraft in a Sept. 27 incident at Denver International Airport.

Rayborn faces up to five years in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine if convicted.
