MONTROSE, Colo.—A 14-year-old boy accused of slashing a girl’s throat at Montrose High School has been ordered held without bond.

The suspect appeared in a Montrose County courtroom Wednesday via speaker phone. He’s being held at Grand Mesa Youth Services in Grand Junction.

Authorities say the boy walked into school Nov. 11 and cut the throat of 17-year-old Mallory Haulman as she entered the building. Haulman sustained serious injuries but is recovering and has returned to class.

Police arrested the boy shortly after the attack on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder. His name has not been released and no formal charges have been filed.

His next court appearance is set for Nov. 26.

Another 14-year-old boy faces conspiracy and other charges in the attack.
