ADDS: NEBRASKA-OSBORNE
NEBRASKA-OSBORNE
OMAHA—Tom Osborne isn’t assessing Bo Pelini’s performance on wins and losses—though the Nebraska athletic director says 8-4 was a “very good” first season for the Cornhuskers’ coach. To Osborne, the most important thing Pelini did in 2008 was change the culture after a malaise set in during Bill Callahan’s four years. By Sports Writer Eric Olson. MOUNTAIN LION-HOAX
WICHITA, Kan.—Mountain lions might be taking up residence in Nebraska. But that’s not necessarily the case in Kansas—contrary to what an e-mail that’s making the rounds shows.

WORDS OF FAITH
SUPERIOR—A Christian author here has turned to novels in recent years to tell her faith story. Carol Albrecht, 66, has one novel on the market, another being edited and is in the process of writing a third. In the meantime, she continues with other writing assignments that keep her computer and her mind busy. By Beth Bohling.
FAMILY EXTENSION
HASTINGS—Looking back over her past 35 years as an extension educator in Adams County, Sue Brown said she’s really fortunate for what she had. “I appreciated the people of Adams County for accepting me for who I was. I’m not a real shy, quiet person, and they accepted that,” Brown, 60, said in an interview at her home recently. By Shay Burk.
SPORTS:
GATOR BOWL
OMAHA—The Gator Bowl made it official Sunday, inviting Nebraska to play Clemson on Jan. 1. The matchup in Jacksonville, Fla., had been a foregone conclusion for almost a week, but Big 12 policy prevented the Cornhuskers from accepting a bowl invitation until after the conference championship game. T25-NEBRASKA-ARIZONA ST
TEMPE, Ariz.—Even with a solid defensive effort keyed on its top two players, No. 19 Arizona State had more than enough to get the Pac-10 a win in the series with the Big 12. James Harden, the Sun Devils’ leading scorer, was held without a field goal for more than 19 minutes but still finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead Arizona State past Nebraska 64-44 on Sunday.
