GRAND JUNCTION — Grand Junction police say they put two schools on lockdown while pursuing a pair of suspected car burglars.

The lockdown was lifted after about 25 minutes Friday, but the suspects hadn’t been captured.

Police say two juveniles were reported breaking into a car Friday morning. After a witness saw them, the pair ran into St. Mary’s Hospital, out through a parking garage and then toward Grand Junction High School.

The high school and nearby Tope Elementary were placed on lockdown because the initial report indicated the juveniles may have had a weapon.

Police lifted the lockdown after determining the pair probably weren’t armed.
