Broomfield High School and a nearby day care center were evacuated this afternoon after a construction crew ruptured a gas pipeline in a lot next to the high school.
Wendy Forbes, spokeswoman for the North Metro Fire Rescue, said the students and faculty of the high school were sent home early.
And the 50 children in the day care center at the Broomfield United Methodist Church across the street from the school were picked up by their parents, Forbes said.
Forbes said North Metro sent three engines, two medical units and a battalion chief to the scene.
No injuries were reported.
She said crews from Xcel Energy were still attempting to find the exact location of the break in the line early this evening.
She said Daphe Street between 10th Avenue and Miramonte Boulevard is closed to traffic.
The break occurred about 1:30 p.m., she said.
