A Colorado State Trooper jumped out at the last minute as a Toyota 4-Runner crashed into the roadside fender-bender the officer was investigating about 4 p.m. today.

The trooper was taking an accident report after a Ford Explorer and a semi-trailer collided in the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 at 84th Avenue in Thorton, said Trooper David Hall.

A 4-Runner hit the vehicles pulled to the side of the road, seriously injuring three people inside the Toyota. All three were airlifted to hospitals from the crash, but Hall had no information about their identity or condition shortly afterward.

“It was a very serious accident,” he said.

The drivers in the initial crash were not injured. The trooper was grazed by the wreck but was able to stay and help those who were injured inside the Toyota, Hall said.
