Residents of an assisted-living facility were evacuated early this morning after a sprinkler line broke and flooded sections of the building.
Brighton emergency service workers were called about 2:25 a.m. to the Brighton Village Apartments, 199 W. Southern St., on a ruptured water line, said John Bradley, a Brighton Police Department spokesman.
Investigators with the Greater Brighton Fire Protection District believe the break happened on the top floor of the four-story building after a pipe froze and burst.
The entire building had to be evacuated because of heavy water damage. Fifty-six residents have been displaced including 10 who were taken to a local hotel by police and Platte Valley Ambulance EMTs. Most of the residents were picked up and sheltered by family members and friends, police said.
No one was injured in the incident.
Repairs are underway, and the building will likely be inspected later today, Bradley said.
The American Red Cross helped authorities in the evacuation and arranged shelter for some of the displaced residents.
