DENVER—Tolls are going up a quarter during peak rush hours on the Interstate 25 express lanes around Denver.

The toll will go to $3.50 during peak rush hour next week. The rising toll comes because of an agreement between the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Denver mass transit system that highway tolls cannot be lower than express service rates on buses. Those bus rates also go to $3.50 next week.

The rising highway toll comes even though traffic in the express lanes dropped last year. The new higher charge will apply to lone drivers using the lanes from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m. and from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
