The entire town of Milliken was without water for about two hours Sunday morning, with the outage lingering into the afternoon for some neighborhoods.
Water pressure began falling Saturday. On Sunday morning, crews shut down the system to look for a leak, then bring unaffected neighborhoods back online, the city public works department said.
By late afternoon, the leak was isolated in the Colony Point subdivision, but water was back in service throughout the rest of the town, said Mayor Janie Lichtfuss.
Service in Colony Point was expected to be restored by Sunday evening, she said.
The Weld County town of about 3,000 people has 1,900 water taps.
Crews weren’t sure how long the water would be out when they began, so they provided water to the town’s 20-unit Dove Valley Senior Community.
Water also was available at public buildings. The mayor and other town officials came in to answer phone calls about the outage.
“We didn’t have a lot of takers,” Lichtfuss said. “But we had enough if we’d needed it.”
