CORTEZ, Colo.—A prosecutor says a man accused of killing his father and then feeding parts of the dismembered corpse to coyotes has been found competent to stand trial.
Jeremiah Berry has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the February death of his father, Jack Berry. Jeremiah Berry has been at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo since entering his plea in July.
Prosecutor Keith Mandelski told the Cortez Journal Monday that a psychiatric evaluation determined that Berry is not legally insane. A court hearing is scheduled Jan. 6.
Jeremiah Berry is charged with second-degree murder. An arrest warrant affidavit says Jeremiah Berry claims his father raped him after telling the son he needed a sex change to become his wife. Parts of the father’s body were found encased in buckets of concrete.
