DENVER—A state legislative committee has rejected a one-year delay for new oil and gas industry rules in Colorado.
Republican Sen. Greg Brophy of Wray proposed a bill putting the rules on hold. He and industry officials said at a Tuesday hearing that imposing regulations during a recession could cost Colorado jobs and tax revenue.
Supporters countered that the regulations strike a balance between encouraging development and protecting the environment. They say low oil and gas prices, tight credit and a lack of pipeline capacity are to blame for a slowdown in the industry.
The regulations implement two laws passed by the Legislature in 2007.
