SAN FRANCISCO — Media News Group is requiring all nonunion employees who work at the company’s California newspapers to take one week of unpaid leave this quarter to help cut costs. Officials at MediaNews, which also owns The Denver Post, said Wednesday the furloughs will affect about 3,300 employees at more than 50 newspapers. Vice president Charlie Kamen says the company is also considering furloughs at newspapers outside of California. The move by Denver-based MediaNews follows a similar announcement by Gannett Co.
