An Ohio lawyer who became a confidential informant against his own clients may be suspended from practicing law because he did not disclose that he was under federal investigation when applying to practice in Colorado, according to state Supreme Court officials.

Francis Pignatelli, who represents about a dozen criminal clients in U.S. District Court in Denver and several others in state court, did not return a call seeking comment.

Colorado’s Attorney Regulation Counsel, John Gleason, says he filed a petition for suspension with the Supreme Court. If a show-cause order is issued by the court, Pignatelli will have 10 days to respond.
