GREELEY, Colo.—Investigators say a child playing with a lighter sparked a blaze that destroyed a Greeley mobile home, leaving seven children and six adults homeless.
The fire broke out in the Villa West Mobile Home Park about 7 p.m. Thursday.
Nearly 20 firefighters from Union Colony Fire Rescue Authority responded to the blaze. Division Chief Dale Lyman says the lighter ignited combustible materials, and the fire spread rapidly.
One resident was treated for possible smoke inhalation, and a firefighter suffered minor injuries when a small porch collapsed, throwing the firefighter to the ground.
Twenty-eight-year-old Felipa Castaneda says he moved into the home just three months ago with five other adults and the children.
No damage estimate was available.
