BOULDER, Colo.—A woman convicted of stealing money from prospective parents who did business with her now-defunct, Boulder-based adoption agency has been sentenced to 90 days in jail, 12 years of probation and 100 hours of community service.
Forty-eight-year-old Lisa Novak also must pay back the tens of thousands of dollars she took from couples hoping to adopt through her Claar Foundation adoption agency.
Novak was ordered Friday to find employment as part of her probation. But she is prohibited from operating her own business or engaging in any adoption-related work.
A jury in December found Novak guilty of one count of fraud and three counts of theft, all felonies.
