FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Army Corps of Engineers will reopen its environmental study of two proposed reservoirs in northern Colorado after its initial review was sharply criticized.

The corps said this week it will compile a supplemental study on the Northern Integrated Supply Project. The proposal includes one reservoir north of Fort Collins and another near Ault.

The draft environmental impact statement predicted some environmental damage but said that without the reservoirs, northern Colorado cities might use up agricultural water, drying up farmland.

Critics say the study didn’t adequately address the impacts. The federal Environmental Protection Agency said the project could violate clean water laws.

The supplemental study is expected to take until June 2010.
