COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Colorado Springs parochial school has been closed for the rest of the day after a student was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning.

Officials at Corpus Christi Catholic School announced in a statement Friday that a seventh-grade student had been diagnosed with the illness, apparently after having eaten peanut butter crackers from a Sam’s Club.

Parents and staff were notified that the school would be closed so it could be thoroughly cleaned.

The student’s condition was not immediately known.

A salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 575 people in 43 states. At least eight have died.

It has prompted one of the largest food recalls ever, including more than 1,300 products.
