GREELEY, Colo.—The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Colorado’s Weld County is No. 8 in the country in the value of its farm and ranch products.
The data released Thursday show Weld County’s agricultural production has an annual market value of $1.54 billion.
Of that, $1.26 billion comes from livestock and more than $272 million from crops.
The census uses information compiled in 2005 and 2006 and doesn’t reflect the higher commodity prices farmers have seen since the economy worsened.
Colorado State University agriculture economist Norm Dalsted says a new cheese plant set to open in Greeley in 2011 will improve Wed County’s ranking the next time figures are compiled.
The data is compiled every five years.
