A 30-year-old man was rescued yesterday afternoon after he fell while climbing in Eldorado Canyon.

First-responders got the call about 3 p.m. Saturday, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The man had been climbng with a friend “at the Westridge area on the ‘Pool of Blood’ route” when he slipped, the release said. He fell, and his safety gear ripped out of the canyon wall. He dropped 30 or 40 feet to the ground, injuring his back.

It took rescuers 2-1/2 hours to get him out, and then he was flown to a Denver hospital.

The sheriff’s office said the man and his companion were both “experienced climbers and were using ropes and safety gear.”
