Six Colorado chefs and restaurateurs have made the first cut for the 2009 James Beard Foundation Awards. Considered to be the food industry’s highest honor, the awards honor influential food, beverage and management experts. Finalists will be named March 23 and winners revealed at a May 4 dinner in New York.

The six locals headed to the next round of online balloting are:

  • Frank Bonanno, Outstanding Restaurateur, Mizuna, Luca D’Italia and Osteria Marco, Denver.
  • Yasmin Lozada-Hissom, Outstanding Pastry Chef, Duo, Denver.

    Best Chef, Southwest region:

  • Mark Fischer, Restaurant Six89, Carbondale.
  • Ryan Hardy, Montagna at the Little Nell, Aspen.
  • Kelly Liken, Kelly Liken, Vail.
  • Alex Seidel, Fruition Restaurant, Denver.
