Northglenn police say a man who talked to police during a routine traffic stop was shot in the head a short time later in an apartment less than a block away this afternoon.
The man, who has not been identified, died at Denver Health Medical Center.
He was shot in the head inside a unit at Thistle-Sage Apartments at 11801 Washington St. shortly after 5 p.m., about a half hour after he was questioned a block away during a traffic stop at 118th and Washington streets, said Northglenn Sgt. Steve Garrow.
Two men at the apartment were taken into custody. A third man, believed to the gunman, ran away and was caught a short distance away, Garrow said.
He had been a passenger in the car, Garrow said.
One of the two men detained at the apartment was also in the car, but Garrow wasn’t sure if the suspected shooter was also in the car. He said this evening that police were still piecing together the circumstances that led to the shooting, he said.
Anyone who was a witness can call 303-450-8857.
