Pale, shimmery gowns and giant gems lit up the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday night as Hollywood gathered for its biggest fashion show of the year.
The absence of color made a statement at the Oscars, with Anne Hathaway a standout in an ivory Armani Prive strapless gown detailed with paillettes on the skirt. Sarah Jessica Parker said she dubbed the color of her Dior couture gown “barely mint.” Jessica Biel wore a white duchess satin Prada gown with a big bow on the front. Marisa Tomei donned a pale silvery pleated Versace gown.
Gold gowns were all over the runways in New York, and Viola Davis caught the fever, wearing a sunburst pleated Reem Acra dress and diamond bracelets.
Red also was hot, with Heidi Klum in an intricately designed Roland Mouret gown, Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera and Amanda Seyfried in a sweet bow-front dress.
Another trend fresh from the catwalk was in statement necklaces. Adams’ brilliant beaded design was from Fred Leighton, and the jeweler also loaned Taraji P. Henson a floral diamond neck piece.
Burberry took the honors of tastefully dressing handsome Hugh Jackman, but at least one guy went a little off the grid. Mickey Rourke accessorized his ivory Jean Paul Gaultier tux with chains and a necklace in tribute to Loki, his pet Chihuahua that died a week ago.
