HARTFORD, Conn. — Warning to state employees: Better hope the pen you’re using doesn’t run out of ink soon.
With the state still facing a deficit in the current fiscal year, Gov. M. Jodi Rell ordered a freeze this week on all nonessential state purchasing for the next four months — including pens, paper, fax machines and cleaning equipment.
Commissioners and agency heads are being told to avoid buying anything that is not “absolutely and immediately essential” to running their agencies.
