Denver police have denied a request by The Denver Post for copies of the dispatcher’s tape and other information related to the Feb. 26 police fatal shooting of a man behind the wheel of his car.

Officer Ed Ash, a three-year veteran and a member of the DUI team, was named as the officer who shot and killed Davlon Reagor, 38, during a traffic stop for speeding near East Fifth Avenue and Lafayette Street. Ash was cleared by the department to return to his normal duties March 5.

The Post requested a copy of the dispatcher’s tape that night, documents on Ash’s background and any disciplinary records in his file. They all were denied because the tape and records are part of an ongoing investigation. The Denver Post
