JOHANNESBURG — Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai of Zimbabwe said Monday that the car crash that killed his wife Friday was an accident, countering speculation among some of the government’s critics that the episode was related to Zimbabwe’s tortured history of political dirty tricks.
Tsvangirai, who was injured in the crash, went to neighboring Botswana for medical treatment over the weekend but returned to Harare, the Zimbabwean capital, on Monday. He ruled out the chance of foul play as “one in a thousand,” and said, “It was an accident which took a life.”
