GRAND JUNCTION — A woman and her son who fell about 20 feet into a crevice at Colorado National Monument on Saturday suffered only minor injuries.
The Grand Junction Fire Department said the fall happened when the son tossed his jacket across the 18-inch-wide crevice during a hike.
The son then jumped across to retrieve it but started slipping.
The mother went to help, and both fell.
Another friend witnessed the fall.
Authorities say the mother was hospitalized with minor injuries, while the boy was only bruised. Neither was named by authorities.
