TRENTON, N.J. — was honored twice Friday in the 75th annual National Headliner Awards, a national journalism contest run by The Press Club of Atlantic City.
won first place for its daily online slide show. It also won third place for best newspaper-affiliated online journalism.

Newspaper reporters from the Detroit Free Press who uncovered a scandal that led to the mayor’s downfall won the grand award for reporting.

The other three grand award winners were Associated Press photographer Emilio Morenatti, based in Islamabad; KUT Radio in Austin, Texas; and WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio.

In the past, the awards have been presented at the club’s banquet in Atlantic City, but that will not happen this year because of the slumping economy.

Club officials will give medallion plaques to all first-place winners, and all the winners will receive a program containing the winning entries and judges’ comments. Staff and wire reports
