AURORA, Colo.—Police are seeking a woman who gave her newborn to an out-of-town couple at a bus stop on a busy suburban Denver avenue.

Aurora police Detective Shannon Lucy said the couple stopped Friday to render aid to an incoherent woman who was wearing bloodied clothes and carrying a newborn wrapped in a white sheet. When asked if the baby needed help, she handed the couple the boy, who authorities say may have been premature and born hours earlier.

Lucy said the couple rushed the boy to Children’s Hospital, where he is well and in the custody of the Adams County Department of Human Services. No ambulance was summoned to the Colfax Avenue bus stop, and police did not find the woman.
