PUEBLO, Colo.—Pueblo County School District 70 won’t go to four-day weeks to shave expenses, but warns costs will have to be cut to avoid a projected $4.5 million shortfall.
The school board decided this week against a shorter school week after employees and parents said such a drastic move shouldn’t be rushed.
Cutting one day a week would have saved $1.2 million in transportation costs. But school days would have to be longer to meet the required number of hours, and that spurred concerns from speakers during a recent hearing.
Other Colorado school districts are studying whether four-day weeks would help cover shortfalls in the face of anticipated drops in state funding.
