BOULDER, Colo.—Thousands of students and employees at the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus are scheduled to receive text messages Monday as part of a test of the school’s campus alerts system.
Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano says more than 15,000 people have signed up for the system to receive text messages in the event of an emergency, but school officials would like to see more participation.
Volunteers will be on hand at the University Memorial Center for several hours Monday to register new subscribers.
CU launched the program in 2007 following a recommendation from a task force to add such a system to its other communication methods.
An actual emergency alert would direct recipients to two Internet sites or the campus emergency information line.
