VAIL, Colo.—A 62-year-old man has died after getting trapped under a snowmobile south of Eagle and suffocating.

Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis identified the victim as Mike Claussner of Eagle. She says an autopsy showed he died of “positional asphyxia.”

Authorities say Claussner and a friend were snowmobiling in the White River National Forest Sunday when the friend called authorities at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday to report an emergency. Authorities say the friend didn’t witness the accident.

Members of the Vail Mountain Rescue Group responded and found Claussner’s snowmobile on its side.
