A brush fire along I-25 near Fountain caused visibility issues for drivers this afternoon on the highway.

The right lane of southbound traffic on the highway, just south of Fountain, was closed as a precautionary measure for a short time, according to the Fountain Police Department.

Traffic in other lanes of the highway also slowed because of drifting smoke, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Firefighters with the Fountain Fire Department put out several fires along the highway within a short distance, all started by tire shards from a passing semi truck, said Fire Chief Darin Anstine.

About one acre burned on the west side of the highway, Anstine said.

The small fires, smoke, and shutdown happened over the lunch hour. No one was injured and all lanes of the interstate have reopened.
