HOUSTON — Five children were missing and presumed drowned Saturday after the car they were riding in careened off the road and into a bayou during heavy thunderstorms that caused flash floods, police and fire officials said.
Missing were two girls, ages 1 and 3, and three boys, ages 4, 6 and 7, police said. Two men and a 10-year-old girl got free of the Lincoln Town Car and were in good condition. About 5 p.m., the driver lost control, and the car plunged down an embankment into the swollen Greens Bayou near George Bush Intercontinental Airport, fire officials said.
By 8 p.m., police divers found the car in more than 9 feet of water, he said.
