BOULDER — Boulder city officials will consider laying off employees and reducing the hours of operation at government offices and libraries to deal with a budget shortfall in the coming years.
City Council members will hear about those proposals Tuesday as they deal with a decline in sales tax revenue that could force them to cut as much as $5.4 million from their $200 million budget this year.
Layoffs and a reduction in operating hours for libraries and government offices are part of long-term plans that would not take effect until 2010.
Short-term options include a hiring freeze and a ban on most training and travel expenses, as well as a reduction in money given to the Open Space and Mountain Parks Department.
