The winner: Spec. Don L. Roberts, Paonia: The miner statue is in the town park of Paonia. This picture was taken while visiting my hometown of Paonia just days before my third deployment to Iraq. The names inscribed on the statue are of the men that have lost their lives in the coal mines around Paonia. Many of these families still live in the area. Coal mining has a proud and rich history in the North Fork Valley.
