DENVER—Unionized former employees of the Rocky Mountain News have voted to accept lump-sum severance packages ranging from $7,500 to $50,000 each.

The News closed Feb. 27 after The E.W. Scripps Co. said its losses were mounting and no viable buyer stepped forward.

About 100 former News employees who belong to the Denver Newspaper Guild voted Monday night to accept the severance packages totaling $4.8 million. Workers with at least 30 years’ service at the News got the maximum $50,000.

The workers had already received 60 days’ pay after the closure.
