LINCOLN, Neb.—Tyler Farst tied his career high with four hits, but Nebraska wasn’t able to overcome Missouri on Sunday, losing 12-9.
Farst went 4-for-5, picking up his second four-hit game of the season, as the Cornhuskers (21-26-1, 5-19 Big 12) outhit the Tigers 15-10. But a trio of errors led to four unearned runs for Missouri (28-21, 14-10 Big 12).
Missouri took advantage of a second-inning error by left-fielder Boomer Collins to jump to a 3-0 lead; Collins misplayed a fly ball off the bat of Steve Gray. But Nebraska bounced back with a five-run inning, highlighted by DJ Belfonte’s two-run single.
In the sixth, doubles from Kyle Mach and Ryan Ampleman and a two-run homer from Erik Bird, combined with another Huskers error, put the Tigers up 7-5. Missouri extended its lead in the seventh on a two-run homer from Gray and surged to a 12-6 lead in eighth on Austin Holt’s homer and a two-run double from Gray.
Nebraska attempted a comeback in the ninth, scoring three times and getting the tying run to the plate before falling short.
Nick Tepesch (5-4) took the win for Missouri, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings.
