FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Closing arguments are scheduled for Friday in the case of a Loveland man accused in the beating death of a process server.
James Whitler is on trial for the death last year of 57-year-old Stephen Allen, who was stabbed and beaten with a baseball bat at Whitler’s home.
Whitler told authorities he went into a “blind range” when he saw the man giving him divorce papers. He also told a sheriff’s investigator during an interview on the day of his arrest that Allen was an innocent man who had become the object of his failed marriage.
Jurors in Fort Collins saw a tape of the interview Tuesday.
The 46-year-old Whitler is charged with first-degree murder, and two counts of attempted murder for allegedly choking his two children.
Jurors are expected to hear instructions Thursday before closing arguments begin Friday morning.
