SAN ANGELO, Texas—A hearing entered its second day in San Angelo in the criminal cases against men from a polygamist ranch raided last spring.
Defense attorneys on Thursday detailed evidence they say should have been given to the judge before a warrant was issued for the raid on the Yearning for Zion Ranch.
The attorneys say law enforcement officers used fake domestic-abuse hotline calls as an excuse to rummage through the ranch. They say that violated the men’s constitutional rights and the evidence from the raid should be excluded from the criminal cases.
A state assistant attorney general has defended law enforcement’s actions.
Ten men from the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints face charges including sexual abuse of a child and bigamy.
