
WINDSOR, Colo.—Northern Colorado cities will observe the first anniversary of destructive tornado this weekend with ceremonies and the dedication of a park bench in memory of a man who was killed.
The May 22, 2008, tornado struck with winds between 136 and 165 mph. Fifty-two-year-old Oscar Manchester was killed at a campground near Greeley.
In the nearby town of Windsor, 80 homes were destroyed and 770 others were damaged. Windsor spent $2 million to repair town buildings.
On Friday, events at Windsor’s Chimney Park include a recognition and recovery ceremony, a retirement ceremony for damaged flags and a free concert and movie.
On Saturday, a memory bench will be dedicated at Missile Silo Park outside Greeley, where Manchester was killed.
