DES MOINES, Iowa—Police say a man arrested in Colorado has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a Des Moines teenager.
Nineteen-year-old Luis Alvarado was arrested by the Colorado State Patrol on Wednesday. He was initially sought for questioning but was charged Thursday in the stabbing death of 16-year Eduardo Marquez.
Colorado state troopers found Alvarado on a Greyhound bus traveling west along Interstate 70, about 10 miles north of Breckenridge, Colo. Authorities stopped the bus after Alvarado allegedly made a 911 call and told authorities he was being held hostage.
Trooper Gilbert Mares says authorities evacuated the bus and traced the call to Alvarado.
Authorities discovered he was wanted in Iowa and took him into custody.
