GREELEY, Colo.—A 4-year-old boy has been airlifted to The Children’s Hospital in Aurora after he fell to the ground from a moving vehicle in Greeley.

Police say the boy was inside a vehicle when he apparently either opened the door himself Friday, or the door opened accidentally, and the boy stepped out while the vehicle was still in motion.

The Tribune reported on its Web site Friday that a witness initially thought a toy had fallen out of the car, but realized after she went to help that it was a boy.

The child was first taken to North Colorado Medical Center with severe head injuries. Police say he was unconscious but breathing. He was later airlifted to Aurora.

His name was not released.
