COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The rainy Memorial Day weekend may save Colorado Springs $240,000 in watering expenses for its parks.

Parks officials say enough rain fell last weekend that they not have to turn the sprinklers back on until Monday.

That’s a boost for Kurt Schroeder, the parks maintenance manager.

He says it would cost about $2.5 million to give the city’s 869 acres of grass the recommended amount of water this year, but his watering budget is only $1.7 million.
