Breckenridge bachelor miner Edwin Carter was an amateur taxidermist who filled his small Breckenridge cabin with more than 3,300 animal specimens. His fauna formed the first collection of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and also documented the toxic effects that mining wrought on Colorado’s wildlife. The museum was recently renovated.
