Denver’s Louie Byrd won his second straight match at the USA Boxing National Championships, outpointing Oscar Cantu of Kingsville, Texas, 33-20, on Wednesday at the Denver Coliseum.
• Olympic veteran Rau’shee Warren of Cincinnati won a first-round bout, defeating Larry Martin Downs III of Pensacola, Fla., in the 119-pound division. Warren, who fought at 112 pounds in the Beijing Olympics, won when Downs retired in the second round.
Warren was the only boxer on the 2008 U.S. team who also fought in the 2004 Games in Athens.
