DENVER—Colorado has another chunk of its stimulus money headed for schools.
Federal education authorities announced Wednesday that Colorado has received $509 million in so-called “stabilization funds.” Those are funds aimed at preventing deep cuts in school budgets or teacher layoffs as tax revenues decline.
The U.S. Department of Education says Colorado has already gotten $140 million in stimulus money for education. The state is eligible to apply for another $251 million this fall.
Colorado officials also plan to apply for part of a competitive fund worth $4 billion for state school systems that promise reform. Details on how that fund works are expected later this year.
