EVANS, Colo.—One person is in custody and an Evans police officer is recovering after a man allegedly drove over the officer’s legs while trying to flee.
Authorities say a woman called police to her home at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to ask for help in removing her son, who had been released from the Weld County jail four hours earlier.
Police say after they asked 32-year-old Clinton Piel to leave, he got into pickup truck, struck a parked car, then hit Officer Shawn Holmes and drove over his legs.
Holmes suffered a broken right ankle, injured left knee and other leg injuries. He was taken to a Greeley hospital where he was treated and released a few hours later.
Piel faces charges including attempted murder of a police officer and reckless endangerment.
